I didn't want this to happen to me!

After years of what can only be considered hair abuse I was shocked to see images of Naomi campbell with traction alopecia. Here's a beautiful women with money and the best hair stylists in the world at her disposal yet due to the pressure of keeping her supermodel image has butchered her hair for the cause.
There are many black women like myself who have an ingrained belief that our hair isn't "good" enough. Last year I had a weave and notice that my hair was not only thinnning around the tepmles but had bald spots on the side. I decided to shave off all my hair so it was a number 1 all over. It looked a little something like this:

That was october last year. I continued to shave my head till late febuary 2012.

That's when I decided to take the plunge and grow my hair au naural! It will be difficult as the reason I love my black hair is the sheer variety of styles available to people with our hair type and the restriction on my styling will be tough... this is how i'm rocking it right now!

I'm going to do month by month progress reports on my hair growth aswell as letting people know the products i'm using and how effective those products are... My current haircare regiment is:

I use F.A.S.T fortified amino scalp therapy shampoo and conditioner (beware, i'm only trialing it and some say it really dries out black hair although I have been using daily as directed and have had no such issues).

I moisturise my hair with a mixture of aloe vera juice and coconut oil as these genuinely moisturise the hair by penetrating the hair shaft rather then just coating it.

I then seal in the moisture using a peppermint/almond oil mix. I have heard that unrefined castor oil is excellent at sealing in moisture also.

Because I have thinning hair at the sides i've been using Groganics DHT blocker system daily topical scalp treatment. I use after shampooing after I apply my moisture but before I seal it with oil.

I do this before I go to bed and wrap my hair with a satin headscarf to dry naturally.

I deep condition with Aussie Miracle Moist conditioner once a week

I'm expecting the arrival of my mega tek rebulder which i've heard fantastic things about and I'll give an update as to how it works before and after. Note of caution... I've heard the excess protein in Mega Tek can cause shedding... Use a garlic conditioner or take a supplement in order to avoid this and as the product is quite strong (and expensive) dilute with water and use as a spray...

I'm very excited to go on this natural hair journey and even more hyped to share with as many AfroCarribeans/Americans as possible (:

Lets love our hair together

Much love
